Studio Rules and Policy

Last Edited 7/23/12

General Studio Policies

1. Be Safe. It is the prerogative of all SHOW Circus Studio (hereby referred to as SHOW) instructors to request that a student not participate in a specific activity for their safety and the safety of the instructor and other participants. An instructor has the right to ask you not to participate due to alcohol or drug use, sleep deprivation, injury, illness and any other activity that hampers your ability to participate safely and responsibly in the class. SHOW has the right to request a doctors note if they feel it is important for the safety of the student, class or instructor.

2. Keep the studio clean and organized. Please put back any equipment or supplies in the appropriate place when done using them. Feel free to use cleaning supplies (paper towels, vacuum, etc) to clean any messes you make. If there is any blood on the equipment, please ask an instructor for assistance.

3. Be respectful. SHOW should be welcoming to people of all abilities and from all walks of life.

4. Always train with a mat under you. No exceptions!

5. Please remove your shoes before entering the training area. Wear either socks, indoor shoes or be barefoot.

6. Please take off any jewelry or watches before class. Accessories can damage equipment, instructors and yourself. Be respectful of the other people in class with you. No heavily scented perfumes, deodorants or scents. The instructor has the right to ask a student to stop wearing a scent that is distracting to the class. Please make sure long hair is pinned up out of the face and from around the neck.

7. No food or drink is allowed outside of the waiting room area. Please be responsible for any food, beverages or water bottles that you bring into the studio and remove them when you leave. SHOW can not guarantee safety of any items left in the studio.

8. Payment is due in full at time of class/lesson/rental. At this time we accept credit cards, cash and checks.

Refund and Cancellation Policies

General Refund and Cancellation Information

SHOW reserves the right to cancel any event which does not obtain minimum enrollment. If a class, workshop, camp, private lesson, space rental or any event is cancelled by SHOW, the fee for that event will be refunded 100% minus a $10 administrative fee or arrangements will be made for a make-up, unless noted otherwise (See below).

Cancellation Notifications

All weather related cancellations will be made before noon on the same day as the class. All cancellations will be posted on our homepage via our twitter account, our facebook page and an email will be sent to all registered students. Please check your computer for the most up to date cancellations.

Snow Cancellations

Any classes cancelled due to weather will be credited to the student's account for use in a future session.

Class Cancellations/Withdrawals

Account credit will only be given to students for a missed class if it is cancelled by SHOW or if the student has a medical excuse. In the case of an absence due to medical reasons, the student may be asked to provide a doctor's note.

SHOW reserves the right to cancel any class which does not obtain minimum enrollment of four students. If between one and three students are registered, the class may be turned into a private lesson at the discretion of the teacher.

In the event of a student cancellation before the first day of class, a full refund of the unused tuition will be made or credited toward any other SHOW class minus a $10 administrative fee. No refunds will be given after the first class of a session.

Workshop/Summer Program Cancellations

100% of the deposit, less $25 administrative fee per workshop or program, is refundable prior to one month before the first day of the event. After this time, 50% of the deposit is refundable until two weeks before the first day of the event, after which time no refund will be given.

Private Lesson Cancellations

Lessons must be cancelled by phone 24 hrs prior to the scheduled lesson. The first time a student cancels a private lesson in less than 24 hours or does not show up, they will be charged half of the lesson fee. Subsequent late cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full lesson price. The only exceptions are due to weather, health or injury.

Adult and Youth Class Distinction

Each SHOW class is designated as either adult or youth. All adult classes are for students ages 16+. Youth classes are available for ages 18 months to 13 years. A student under 16 may attend an adult class with the permission of the instructor. Permission must be received BEFORE signing up for the class.

Make Up Policy

Adult Classes

1. Students can attend open studio for free to make up as many as two classes missed during the current session. Un-used make ups cannot be rolled over into a new session.

2. If a student misses several classes and falls behind the rest of the class in a way that is detrimental to the safety and/or continuity of the class, the coach may ask the student to move to a class with a more appropriate skill level, or ask the student to wait for the next session of classes to begin.

3. Drop ins may not be used to make up a missed class.

Youth Classes

1. Students in youth classes can make up one missed class per session in the cases of illness/injury.

2. A make-up can occur in any other age appropriate session class and must be scheduled in advanced with the SHOW office.

3. All make-ups must occur during the semester in which the class was missed.

Drop In Policy

Adult Classes

1.Drop ins to classes are only allowed by permission of instructor, and only if the class has room.

2. To arrange a drop in you must contact the office by phone or email prior to the class. Persons who show up to drop into a class without calling ahead may be denied entrance to the class if there is not sufficient room, or if the instructor feels that they may impede the progress of the other students.

Youth Classes

Drop ins are not permitted in youth classes unless scheduled as a make up for a current student who missed a similar class that session. A child may observe a class with the permission of the instructor but may not participate. See also “make up policy for youth classes”.

Partial Sessions

While students do have the option of participating in a partial session at a prorated fee, priority will be given to students signing up for a full session. Permission of instructor and SHOW is required for all partial sessions.

Class Arrival

Adult Classes

Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out any necessary paperwork and to warm up. Please keep all warm ups on the ground and be courteous to any other classes going on.

Youth Classes

Please arrive 10 minutes early on the first class to fill out any necessary paperwork. For every subsequent class, please arrive 5-10 minutes early. Students will be asked to sit quietly until class begins.

Tardiness

Owning to the importance of a proper warm up, safety and injury prevention, students more then 10 minutes late will be allowed to observe their class, but not to participate.

Proper Attire

No jewelry (earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc). Any body piercings that come into contact with the equipment must be taped. No clothing with zippers, hooks or anything that might catch and tear the fabric or your skin. Clothing that is stretchy but not baggy and fully covers your knees, armpits and waist is recommended. Socks are also useful for tight wire, trapeze and other circus skills.

Class Advancement

All classes at SHOW are based on a level progression system to ensure proper comprehension and safety. Students must master a certain skill set before moving up to the next level. A session does not equal a level. A student may take a class two or more times and will not be allowed to progress to a higher level without the permission of the instructor. Please respect the decision of the instructor.

Repeating a session does not mean learning the same skills over again. New skills and challenges will

be given to match a student's knowledge and to improve their current skill level until they are able to advance classes.

Waiting Area (Guests and Parents)

1. For the safety of the instructors and the students, parents are asked to stay in the waiting area, rather than in the class studio, during class time. A time will be set aside for students to safely showcase their skills.

2. During private lessons for youth, parents may watch at the discretion of the instructor. If parents are allowed to observe the private lesson, we ask that they limit distractions and respect the authority of the instructor. If the teacher feels that the parent's presence is distracting, and thus endangers the safety of the student, they may be asked to sit in the waiting area until the lesson is over.

3. Parents are asked to keep any other children not participating in the class or private in the waiting room area and not allow them to wander the studio or play with studio equipment for safety reasons.

Rigging Advice

Instructors are asked not to give advice about rigging aerial apparatuses to students due to safety and liability. Any student with aerial rigging questions will be referred to a certified aerial rigger. SHOW strongly recommends contacting a certified rigger before attempting to rig any aerial apparatuses.

Health Issues/Injury

1. Participants on medication that may affect coordination skills should not attend classes. Please advice instructor if student is on any medication and/or is ill and/or has symptoms of illness.

  1. 2.Please notify SHOW of any learning disabilities or special needs before the first day of class.

  2. 3.Report any injury or unusual pain/discomfort to instructor immediately.

4. Any injuries that occur while at SHOW, no matter how minor, need to be recorded by the instructor and signed off by the injured student.

Conduct/Attitude

  1. 1.A “Can Do” attitude is expected.

  2. 2.Respectful and courteous manners are expected of all students at all times in the studio.

  3. 3.Respect your own abilities and the abilities of others.

Studio Equipment

  1. 1.Equipment should be used only as intended and put away correctly EVERY time it is used.

  2. 2.Report any equipment difficulties to instructor immediately.

  3. 3.Students and parents are liable for any damage caused by negligent behavior.

Private Lessons

1.   Students are welcome to warm up in the studio 30 minutes prior to a scheduled lesson but may only use equipment on which they have trained with a coach.

  1. 2.All private lessons must be paid 72 hours in advanced via Visa/MasterCard over the phone, check by mail or cash payment in studio. SHOW Circus Studio can not guarantee your appointment without receiving payment first.

Photo/Video Policy
For students:
SHOW allows students to take photos/videos in a class/workshop in which they are enrolled.  However, for safety reasons always get specific permission from your coach to video or photograph a particular activity.  Please do not step out of a learning situation to video and photograph.  This is especially important during group activities when the attention of all the members of the group is very important to the success of the project.  Never video or photograph anyone without asking for their permission and do not post videos/photos of anyone online without their specific permission. Unless opting out on the waiver, all photos taken at SHOW are release-able for marketing purposes.

For non-students:
All non students interested in photo/video at SHOW must receive permission from the office 48 hr before each visit to the studio.  This includes all amateur & professional videography/photography.  If you would like to video/photograph a student at a performance please contact us to reserve a special seat.  Flash photography is not permitted at performances.  Please seek permission of subjects before putting documentation online.

Open Studio Policy

  1. 1.Open Studio is for current or recent students of SHOW session classes.

  2. 2.For non-students, special permission from the Executive or Technical Directors must be received before attending open studio.

  3. 3.Open studio is for practicing known skills only. It is not a time for learning new ones.

  4. 4.Teaching other students during open studio is strictly prohibited.

  5. 5.Guests are not allowed without the permission of the open studio moderator. If the moderator feels that the guest is a distraction, they may be asked to sit in the waiting area.

  6. 6.Be polite and courteous to other people training.

  7. 7.Any rigging issues, set up or questions should be directed to the moderator.

  8. 8.All other studio rules apply during open studio time.

Open Studio Passes Terms and Conditions

  1. 1.Passes must be presented to the open studio moderator in order to receive the free admission.

  2. 2.Only one free open studio may be redeemed each month.

  3. 3.Pass is only valid during the dates of the session it was received in.

  4. 4.Each pass is non-transferable and is not redeemable for cash or credit.

  5. 5.Passes will not be reissued if lost during a session.

Birthday Parties

1. A deposit of 20% is required to reserve a date and time for birthday parties. The full cost must be paid by the first day of the party.

2. Parties must be scheduled at least 3 weeks before the event. Birthday parties are currently available only on Saturdays between 1 and 7pm.

3. All participating students must sign a waiver at the studio. Kids should have their waiver in hand when arriving or have their parent with them to sign it at the studio.

4. An area will be provided for eating/drinking and birthday activities. Food and drink are not allowed outside this area.

  1. 5.Detailed party information and confirmations will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the event.

  2. 6.Please note the maximum number of participants includes the birthday kid. If you arrive with extra participants you will be charged the entire extra amount even if an extra instructor is not available. If you end up with fewer participants than expected you will still need to pay the agreed upon rate for the party. On occasion, depending on scheduling, if you let us know far enough in advance, we can work something out.

  3. 7.Anyone with a serious injury may not participate (for example: a broken bone, head injury, etc).

  4. 8.We provide table and chairs in the party room. You are responsible for all food and party supplies.

  5. 9.As much as we love you all, your party is over at a designated time, and you will be required to be out of the party room at that time so that we may set up for the following party, or go home to our families. Please respect our staff and leave on time. You will be charged the going rate for the party room if you stay over your designated time.

  6. 10.We recommend telling guests to arrive 15 minutes early so your entire group is more likely to be there for the start of the party.

  7. 11.We recommend telling parents that the pick-up time is 15 minutes prior to the end of the party. SHOW Circus Studio is not responsible for waiting for children whose parents have not arrived to pick them up. This is the birthday boy or girl’s parents’ responsibility. And you may need to wait with these children outside if parents are late and we are closing.

  8. 12.It is best if kids come dressed in gym clothes with hair tied back.

  9. 13.Teachers will arrive 30 min prior to the start of the party. Parents may arrive 20 minutes early to set up.
